The Beginning

Well this is exciting, my first blog post!  I've been interested in blogging for a long time, but have always had this apprehension to publicizing my opinions.  It's probably because I am terribly critical on the blogs I read.  So many people write about topics they have no clue about!  Why should I contribute to the entropy of the internet by adding my opinion slop to the top of the pile?

Well, my feelings have slowly adjusted themselves for several reasons.  First and foremost, I've realized I'm way too afraid of what other people think.  Who cares?  Second, I am no longer a green game developer.  I have experience shipping quality games, working with AAA studios, and training others.  Maybe I can actually help people and add value that I see missing.  Why do I have a right to sit on my high horse criticizing low quality blog posts when I myself do basically nothing to give back to the community?  It's time to level up.

So now that I've convinced myself to start blogging, well, what will my blog be about?  I'd say my strongest passion is analyzing game development practices, programming patterns, and the philosophy of coding, so that's what I'd like to put down on (digital) paper.  I also simply like thinking about code, game design, and hot topics in the game industry, so I may sprinkle some of that in too.  Finally, I have a backlog of 7+ years of notes on game development that I've never shared with anyone.  I'd love to reminisce on some of them and maybe discuss how my feelings have changed or reinforced the ideas I had.

Anyway, I hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with blogging, hope you enjoy reading!
